Top 5 football players

Football is the world’s most popular sport; it’s played and watched by millions every day. Football can be broken down into two main categories, association football and American football, including Canadian football. These sports are different in many ways. The most crucial difference is that association football only allows players to use their feet to move the ball. In contrast, American football players can use any part of their body except their hands to advance the ball past their opponent.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is well known for his speed, incredible attacking ability and flashy haircut. He has won four Ballon d’Or awards, which is second only to Lionel Messi’s five. However, Ronaldo has been named in seven Best Player shortlists compared to Messi’s five. He scored more than 370 career goals with Real Madrid and Manchester United at the club level. On top of all that, he plays internationally for Portugal. Oh yeah — he was also on a UNICEF commercial with David Beckham where they both created their bubble machine by kicking balls into two frames set up next to each other. It was pretty great.

Luis Suarez

Suarez is one of those footballers who can win a game independently. However, he’s a temperamental player and can be a total liability if not kept in check. This year for Liverpool has seen him repeatedly serve suspensions for lousy behaviour. He has been suspended three times in 2013 alone:

  • 8 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic
  • 10 games following an abuse charge to Patrice Evra after using racist language
  • 10 more games for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini

Suarez has cost Liverpool 9 games out of 38 and scored 30 goals. Suarez is currently 26 years old and has already retired from international competition due to his inability to control his anger towards other opponents.
